Hmmm, now picture this – gorgeous rolling hills and majestic mountain tops. Clear cascading waterfalls and colourful birds chirping in the gum trees. Horses nibbling grass in their paddocks and families riding their bikes past award winning vineyards. Sound like a relaxing, enjoyable mini break? Well that is exactly how I spent last weekend, having a wonderful vacation in the gorgeous country town of Bright in North East Victoria.
Bright is a cute little town situated along the foothills of Mount Buffalo National Park as well as Mount Hotham and Falls Creek Alpine Resorts. Only a 2 & 1/2 hour drive north from Melbourne along the Hume Highway and only a short 50 minute drive on the Great Alpine Road once you turn off at Wangaratta.
Bright is renowned not only for its beautiful scenery but also for its fun filled seasonal festivities such as the Bright Springtime Festival and Fireworks Show, Bright Iconic Rod Run, Audax Alpine Classic, Wandiligong Nut Festival, Bright Autumn Festival and Parade and Bluegrass & Country Music Convention. You don’t have to worry if you miss any of these festivals, no matter what time of the year there is always something to do in Victorias gorgeous north eastern ranges.
Boyntons Winery, Ringer Reef and Gapsted Wineries are only a short drive away. I highly recommend trying Gapsted Wines Zibibbo 🙂 or their Sparkling Moscato – simply devine!! They are a sweeter wine, a delightful fruity bubbly delight to enjoy during the warmer months. If beer is more to your liking then I highly recommend The Bright Brewery. They have recently undergone more renovations and the back verandah has been expanded for the increase in visitors who enjoy a boutique beer while enjoying the outdoor entertainment. Live acoustic music is performed each Sunday afternoon enticing you to stay a little longer…I did lol.
If tasting decadent glasses of award winning bubbly isn’t your idea of an enjoyable afternoon, then you could either hire a bike or jump in your car and visit local fruit orchards, pack a picnic basket and visit the beautiful Eurobin Waterfalls, The Red Stag Deer and Emu Farm or cast a fishing line at the Harrietville Trout Farm. If you happen to visit during the winter months you could always hire snow chains, waterproof clothes and a car pass and visit the local ski resorts.
Bright can be great place to visit with friends and climb the rocks at The Horn at Mount Buffalo and take in the magnificent views, or it can be a place to take your loved one and cosy up by a fire and watch the sun set over the mountain tops. Bright is a cute little country town where you can have as much or as little of an adventure as you please. The perfect place to visit when you just want to connect with nature and unwind with your loved one – the perfect mountain getaway and gorgeous romantic destination.
