Just when I thought I knew every paranormal author in the world, another springs up. Donna Grant, who knew? When I found her ebooks on Amazon Kindle I was rather surprised to discover that she isn’t new to the romance genre. Looking at Donna’s website I was amazed at how many books she has written. The Rogues of Scotland series, Masters of Seduction series and The Shields series, just to name a few. Donna has written an impressive selection of books and after reading Hot Blooded, I understand why she is one of New York Times Bestselling Authors.
The Dark Kings, who are these guys? The kings are a group of men that reside on a large estate in the Scottish highlands. Led by Constantine, this group of gorgeous shape shifting immortals hide from the public behind their roles as farmers and owners of a whisky distillery. Since the beginning of time this group of men have been protecting humans from their enemies which include the Dark Fae.
In the first chapter of Hot Blooded, you are introduced to some of the Dragon Kings – Kellan, Ryder, Rhys, Warrick, Hal, Tristan and the leading man of this story Laith. After Constantine informs the guys of the death of their neighbour John Campbell, the guys are asked to keep watch for the arrival of Johns only child and daughter, Iona. Laith doesn’t want anything to do with Iona, after watching his immortal friends find love with human women, he doesn’t want the same thing to happen to him. He is happy protecting the secrets of Dreagan and running his pub. Unfortunately for Laith, fate has other plans.
The Campbell family have owned the fifty acres of land bordering the Dreagan whisky distillery for countless generations. After a near death experience while on assignment in Afghanistan, photographer Iona Campbell decides to return home to Scotland and reconcile with her father. While packing for her trip home, Iona is contacted by her employer who informs her of her fathers death. Not long after Iona returns home she meets Laith, the gorgeous owner of local pub, The Fox and The Hound, and part owner of Dreagan Whisky. Despite how much Iona tries not to become attached to anyone from her home town, she finds herself drawn to the blue-eyed barman.
As Iona meets those from her fathers community she soon discovers his death was no accident. Iona begins to question the motives of those around her and when she notices that objects in her fathers home are being tampered with she starts to question her own sanity. The closer she gets to Laith the more bizarre her life becomes and as the danger to Iona’s life increases, Laith has no choice but to tell Iona the truth…
Hot Blooded is spellbinding, captivating and exhilarating. The more you learn of the characters the harder it is to put the book down. The story has everything you could possibly want in a paranormal novel, between the evil Dragon King Ulrik and the Dark Fae, the mysteriously brooding king of the kings Constantine and the band of dragon kings, Hot Blooded will keep you coming back for more.
