The Longest Ride Movie Review

I have been waiting a while for the release of Nicholas Sparks latest movie release, and I am more than happy to say that his latest screen adaptation didn’t disappoint. The Longest Ride hit cinemas across Australia on Thursday to the delight of women across each state and territory. Starring two of Hollywoods most delightful and gorgeous actors, 29 year old Scott Eastwood and 25 year old Britt Robertson. This latest romantic movie to hit the big screen is a fabulous reminder that love may not always be easy, but it is always worth it.

So what is the movie about? Without giving too much away, bull riding champion Luke (Scott Eastwood) meets college student Sophia (Britt Robertson) at one of his rodeo circuit events. Luke is a bit of an old fashioned kind of guy who takes his time getting to know Sophia. After a romantic night out, Luke and Sophia save Ira (Alan Alda) from a car crash along with a basket filled with love letters Ira had written to his wife Ruth.

In true Nicholas Sparks tradition, the movie tells the tale of both couples through Sophia reading Iras letters to him while he recovers in hospital. In flashback scenes, the young Ira (Jack Huston) and Ruth (Oona Chaplin, grand daughter of Charlie Chaplin) struggle with life’s ups and downs and through their love of art find a way to embrace their lives post world war 2. There were several funny scenes in the hospital including Iras reference to his nurse and her use of cold hands.

I loved the way the movie all tied in at the end. Luke realises that the challenge of the rodeo pales in comparison to his love for Sophia, and Sophia in turn embraces her own love of the arts thanks to Ira and Ruth. Each of the four main actors share the film equally, although Scott Eastwood had a smidgen more “air-time” thanks to his close up shirt removing scenes that kept all the women in the cinema very happy.

Now I want to take this moment to mention that not everyone in the cinema last night found the movie captivating, oh most of the crowd gave 100% of their attention, but one gentleman just couldn’t fight against the pull of a cat nap. As the credits ran and the lights came on, a man sitting next to his wife a few rows behind my partner and I had his eyes closed, his mouth hanging open and a look of deep contentment on his face. His wife was trying not to laugh to loud but he already had the attention of those around him.

I couldn’t help but introduce myself to the lovely couple and poke a little fun for napping during a romantic movie. But as I told Russell 🙂 my partner and many other men have been caught catching a few zzzz’s while out on a date night with their loved ones. So how can we keep our partners from napping? The trick is to smooch, swap a little saliva…..that should get the hormones going and keep him awake until you get home.

On that note, my partner and I had a fun night out. Met some wonderful couples and watched a wonderful heart warming film. Thinking of going to the movies? I recommend The Longest Ride. Its fun, its entertaining and its a great romantic film for a night out with your partner. If you have seen the movie, leave a comment and let me know what you thought of it. P.s Russell, what did you think of it 🙂
