Bleeding Love by Harper Sloan

Ok first of all, let me just give you a teeny weeny heads up! If you are looking for a cute, fluffy story that doesn’t require the use of too many brain cells, then this would be perfect. You know what I mean? A book that is quick and easy to read while you enjoy an afternoon escape on the couch. If you would rather something with more grit, then this is not the book for you. Bleeding Love is a very basic tale of boy meets girl, boy likes girl…boy will do everything he can to win the girl. Sound interesting, hmmm….let me tell you a bit more….

I like a good healthy dose of drama and intrigue in my romance novels. There doesn’t have to be a lot of it like Pamela Clare’s I-Team Series, or Maya Banks KGI Series. Just enough to keep the story interesting. When you read a book that just drags on with not a lot of substance, I start to get restless. And not the good kind of restless 😉 I mean the unhappy restlessness that has me contemplating whether or not I should finish the book. Harper Sloan’s romance Bleeding Love is a love story that just dragged on, which is a shame, it could have been so much better.

Premise : Megan is a widower and mother to 5 year old Molly. After the sudden death of her husband, Megan struggles to move past the loss and pain of loosing her friend and lover. Her good friends Cohen and Dani try to encourage Megan to open up and move on. Despite everyone’s best interests Megan just doesn’t seem ready, as her despair takes its toll.

Liam is one of the local policemen, an alpha boy to the core. He has grown up watching the love and affection his parents have for each other and wants that for himself. After meeting Megan and her daughter, he knows he has found someone special, and will do everything to make Megan his.

Sounds a bit caveman doesn’t it? Poor Liam, each time he gets a bit closer to Megan, she pushes him away. Most people would get the hint, but not this lover-boy. His heart has made up its mind, if only he can convince Megan to open her own heart and let love in. It’s all a bit annoying in many ways. At one point I felt like yelling at the book, and Liam in particular. How many times do you have to be told to back off?!! But the more he persists the more he gets to know and learn about Megan. It’s very long winded, their relationship unfolding in very small increments. If this was real life, both would have walked away by the 5th chapter.

The story does have a good little twist though, nothing over the top, just a little surprise to keep readers intrigued. Would I recommend this book…..depends on what you are looking for. Something light and whimsy, yeh sure. You want a solid storyline and engaging plot, keep on looking because this isn’t it.

I’ve loved once. I gave everything that I had to that love. Blindly believing that nothing could ever take that feeling away from me. Away from us. And when my little world of happiness was ripped from my fingers, I felt a loss that still haunts me to this day.

Now I use that lingering grief as a shield to keep my heart from loving again. It’s that fear that keeps me from letting anyone, except my daughter, get close enough to make it hurt. To make my heart bleed when I inevitably lose again.

Until the day I met Liam Beckett and everything I thought I had protected myself from was shoved back in my face.

He’s on a mission to prove to me that a love worth having is a love worth fighting for.
