Wow, I dont think radio host’s in Australia have learned a thing since the ‘Royal Prank’ fiasco back in December 2012. I mean, come on….a woman killed herself the last time radio hosts here in Australia thought it would be entertaining and fun to do something stupid! I am sure that if you asked Mel Greig or Mike Christian how they feel today about the part they played in the prank call to King Edward VII’s Hospital in London 3 years ago, I am sure they would tell us that they regret the incident. But has the radio community as a whole learned anything from the call that ended with the death of a nurse?….no, obviously not!
Thursday of this week, a lady going by the name of Jo called the Nova Drive Team and told Fitzy and Wippa of her suspicions “When that little thing came on the news about the Ashley Madison hack he sort of went a bit funny,” Jo explained of her husband. “I looked at him and said ‘whats up?’ and he said ‘nothing”. “I asked him straight out. He said ‘Don’t be stupid. We’re married, we’ve got two kids’.” Jo then told Fitzy and Wippa that when she heard on the radio about the call out for female listeners who suspected their partner might be cheating, she thought she would call the radio program.
Jo had given the radio hosts her husbands personal details, to put into ‘the system’. The entire episode was sensationalised, even the host said “I feel like we’re on Jerry Springer man”. After entering Jo’s husbands details into the database, Jo was told “His details have revealed that he is actually on the website Jo”. You can hear the woman gasp. “Are you fu…are you serious?” Fitzy then says “Yeh, Im sorry” Jo becomes very upset, you could hear the emotion in her voice. She then tells Fitzy and Wippa of her disgust regarding “these websites”and how she felt about a previous caller before hanging up.
Fitzy and Wippa were left shocked, with one of them saying “I don’t know if we should have done that”….you think!?!?!? “That hasn’t left me with a good feeling”….what were they expecting? For Jo to laugh, be all chirpy and thank the boys for telling her that her hubby was listed as a member of cheating website Ashley Madison? When I spoke to my partner about this, he said that she knew what she was doing. She called the station to find out, she is at fault. My issue however is that I don’t think she thought it through, she was shocked….shocked! She was upset, and trying to hold it together. It didn’t last long, understandably, but I really don’t think she thought her husband would be on the site. Or she hoped he wouldn’t….
My issue is with Fitzy and Wippa…..why get listeners to call them? Because they were hoping something like that would happen? And at what cost???? Thats the whole issue here, Fitzy…Wippa…the radio station, do they care that they have told a woman that her husband’s details are in fact on the cheating website. They have just pulled the rug out from under her, her whole life, her marriage….how do you think she would feel? Her friends…her family…her children? Oh its all sensational and riveting isn’t it, but at what cost???? What happened after she hung up the phone? Did she hurt herself? Her children? Her husband? What happened after the call. I don’t know…do you know? There’s the problem!!!!
What are your thoughts? I know my website is all about romance, not cheating etc, but one of the reasons I started my website was to remind us all of the importance of talking to each other. Communicating, trust, kindness, respect, honesty, love…. I write posts about it all the time. And this whole saga… do men and women use these websites because they no longer communicate? Because there is no trust, no more respect? I want to hear your thoughts….
