A good friend of mine asked me earlier today what it is I like about reading romance books. My standard response quickly came to mind – “I love the connection, boy meets girl, they fall in love…blah blah blah”. But, if you are a reader of romance, you would know it is so much more. In our everyday lives, we fantasize about everything….winning tattslotto, going on the most gorgeous beachside vacation, having a sports car lol…. what ever rocks our boat. When it comes to romance, it’s not much different. We want a guy that will listen to us, a guy that is able to fulfil our every wish and desire….you get what I am saying here, right?!!
Romantic books fulfil a desire most of us have. When you think of the genres available in romance today – Historical Romance, Contemporary Romance, Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance…Romantic Suspense….we read those books to fulfil a specific need or desire. Think of it this way – think of someone who is gorgeous and lights your fire! Gerard Butler in Attila The Hun – man, that guy just does things to me, things that get my red blood cells firing in all directions 😉 When I daydream about a guy dragging me off into his hut and doing wild and wicked things to me, well Gerard Butler is my man! I love my man Mitchell…but hello – Gerard Butler – dare I say more? …. 🙂
When we are on Amazon, Nook, Booktopia….we tend to spend time looking for something that will “rock our boats” 🙂 a fantasy to remove us from our daily grind. I love both of my daughters, I love my partner – Mitchell…But damn!!! Sometimes it’s nice to just remove myself from it all. To become someone else…even for a short space of time. Life can be draining – I don’t need to tell you that, yes – life can be stressful. You know it is!!! We all spend time worrying about the kids, about husbands, about work….it can be friggen’ draining!!! You get home at the end of the day and your head is still spinning, then the kids ask “whats for dinner” – and you still have spreadsheets and drama spinning around in your brain! Not fun!!!!
Romance books are a great escape. Yes, we still need to talk to the kids and explain that placing eggs in the microwave and turning the temp on high to see if they do in fact explode is not a wise choice to make! But at the end of the day, when the kids are in bed and my man Mitchell is glued to the television watching Hawthorn win the 2015 Grand Final for the hundredth time…it is nice to take a little time for myself and imagine being held captive by the buff and very delicious barbarian Attila The Hun 😉 Maybe being caught up in the secret life of a spy in Tiffany Snow’s Tangled Ivy Series. Its nice to just unwind. For me, it is as simple as that.
We enjoy romance books for our own reasons, but that is mine. Life is busy, it is important to have some time for ourselves. If it is knitting – good for you. If it requires batteries…great 😉 If it is an old paperback you found at a local market, then I am honestly happy for you. Life is fleeting…..make the most of it!!! You want to read romance, no-one should stop you. Enjoy life’s simple pleasures and remember – everyone enjoys a little magic and adventure…a little romance….
