Revealed to Him by Jen Frederick

What a pleasant surprise this book was. After reading the blurb, I wasn’t sure if I would like it. My friends said it was a great story, but the description didn’t hold any interest for me. After a few days of listening to them discuss the book, my inquisitive nature got the best of me and I downloaded a copy from Amazon. I thought I would need a lot of enthusiasm just to turn the first page, but when I finally looked up from my iPad I was surprised to discover it was nearly 2am. By the following evening I was finished and I admit, I am very happy I listened to my friends.

Author Jen Frederick has written a really lovely heartwarming story about two of the most unlikely people ever to fall in love. Jake Tanner owns his own security business, an investment he made after an IED explosion in Afghanistan 5 years earlier nearly killed him. After loosing his left leg and arm, Jake put his training and contacts to use helping victims of crime. Jake’s love life has been nothing more than meaningless hook-ups, meeting a woman whom he feels a deep connection to seems out of reach. But after a meeting with local quarterback for the NY Cobras Oliver Graham, Jake’s life takes an unexpected turn.

Natalie made a name for herself when she wrote character dialogue for a hugely successful online game. Members of the public became upset when they found out the person behind their fantasy world was a young woman. Constant hate mail and threats left Natalie afraid to leave her apartment, but a text message from Tanner Security changes her life forever.

One of the things I really loved about this story was how well the author portrays the anxiety disorder agoraphobia. Jen Frederick does a great job explaining the disorder and how disabling it can be. She also gives an accurate depiction of what life is like for someone who uses prosthetics. Natalie and Jake are both strong individuals who are simply dealing with the hand they have been given, and the fact that Jake is such a patient and understanding man is amazing.

Handsome and tough Jake Tanner, a veteran and the owner of a successful security firm, never lets his past hold him back. Despite his prosthetic hand and foot, women swoon over him—and with him between the sheets. Yet Jake feels bored and restless…until he’s hired to protect a beautiful writer whose life is in terrible danger.

Self-imprisoned by the fear of the anonymous stalkers who threaten her life, video-game writer Natalie Beck now only dreams of the world outside her pink-bedecked apartment. Trusting people again is off-limits. But the more time Jake spends with her, the more his professional commitment evolves from simple duty to scorching desire. While deeply sensual sparks ignite between the two, the danger outside circles closer. Will Jake’s intense devotion be enough to save Natalie? Or will she turn away from the one man willing to do anything to save her?
