The latest book from author Roxie Rivera’s Russian Protector series is out, and I highly recommend getting a copy. Even though I finished reading the book last night, I know that I will read it again in the near future. Have you ever read a book more than once? In the past I would purchase paperbacks, but after I spent more than $20.00 on a few terribly written books I vowed never to do that again. These days, I download my books from Amazon Kindle. They are much cheaper and I don’t have to wait weeks for the book to be delivered from overseas. One click and it’s on my iPad or iPhone in 10-20 seconds. And that is not an exaggeration. If you don’t have Amazon Kindle, then you are simply missing out on a fabulous opportunity.
Alexei…well were do I start? Ok, first of all I will tell you that this book is the 8th book in the series. You really can’t read it without starting from the beginning and reading book #1 titled Ivan. The reason for that is most of the characters from previous books are in this one. To understand the depth of their friendships and their history, you need to read the series. Also, Alexei was introduced in – oh damn, trying to remember which book was it 🙂 – oh for goodness sake, either the second, or maybe the third book 😦 Sorry, I can’t remember. Suffice to say, Alexei has played a pivotal role throughout the series, so to understand him and how he fits into the series you need to start at the beginning.
The Russian Protector series was originally based on Ivan, Nikolai, Dimitri and Yuri. Four men who have been thick as thieves since they first met as young children in a Russian orphanage. After escaping the hell hole that was their childhood, each of the four boys survived by stealing food and running errands for the unlawful members of society. These young boys, hardened by a life of crime moved to the U.S and grew up to be successful businessmen and entrepreneurs, trying to make a break from their criminal pasts. All they wanted was a normal life, and a woman who would love and accept them for all that they are, and all that they had been.
Alexei had left Nikolai’s mafia family and created a new life for himself. A successful businessman in Houston, Alexei has built a solid name for himself. From one car dealership, he grew to a string of them as well as a trucking company and automotive parts stores. He also owns a small fleet of tow trucks and tire shops. He is no longer a scared little boy trying to stay alive, but a successful man who can afford the finer things in life. Somebody to be proud of.
Shay is a young woman trying to make her way in life. Designing handbags throughout the day and cleaning offices at night, she dreams of one day owning her own accessories store. But her dreams go up in flames when she finds out her sister Shannon is missing and that the most feared criminals of Houston are looking for her. As far as they are concerned, if anyone knows where Shannon is hiding out, it’s her baby sister. Shay turns to the only man who can help her, Alexei. He is the only man in Houston who can offer her protection while the cities criminal syndicates turn up the heat looking for Shannon. And he is the only man who can keep her safe while the cities thugs wait for Alexei to turn his back.
I love Alexei and Shay. I love the whole damn series 🙂 Author Roxie Rivera knows how to turn the heat up with her leading characters, and this book is no different. Alexei is tender when he needs to be, and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty when the one woman to touch his heart is hurt. He may have left his criminal past far behind him, but he doesn’t hesitate calling his old friends when he needs a few favours returned.
