Okay ladies, oh, and some of you gents 😉 guess who’s back!?! The lady responsible for boosting shapewear sales the world over, Ms Bridget Jones. It may have taken the movie’s producers 12 years to get their act together, but do we really care…NO!!! Fans of the first two movies are simply happy to finally find out what became of Ms Bridget and her pompous but oh so loveable Mr Darcy. And if the latest movie trailers are anything to go by, Bridget’s “happily ever after” plans haven’t quite gone according to plan.
When we last saw the happy couple in Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason, Bridget had discovered Mark was not having an affair with his work colleague and that it had been Bridget all along whom Rebecca had been infatuated with. After a shared kiss which resulted in Bridget explaining to Rebecca that if she was ever to “bat for the other side” that there would be no-one else….”only you”, Bridget quickly escaped and took a taxi to Marks workplace. Like most situations with Bridget, a passing truck nearly ruined her plans when it drove through a storm water drain she was standing next to. But that didn’t stop her. When she finally found Mark, they located a quiet hallway together and she said the words we had all been waiting to hear – “I love you”. The scene ended with an adorably botched proposal and a big smooch that left fans feeling all giddy inside.
According to the latest trailers for Bridget Jones’s Baby, Bridget is now in her forties and single again. WTF?!! But how? When we last saw the couple, they planned on getting married, damn it. As with the first two movies, when the shit hit the fan Bridget would immerse herself in her career, and in the latest sequel things are no different. Bridget gets a job as a news producer and everything seems to be going well. That is, until she meets a gorgeous American named Jack (played by Patrick Dempsey). Jack lights a fire in her belly and quite simply is everything Mr Darcy is not. And just when Bridget’s life looks perfect – wham! She finds herself pregnant and in a bit of a precarious position. What now you say? 🙂 Poor Bridget has no idea who the father is! Could it be Mark? The man she has known since she was a little girl, or could it be Jack? The man she hoped would make all her dreams come true?
The trailer also shows an impressive list of cameos from the likes of Ed Sheeran and Emma Thompson. But what of the movies two-timing, obnoxious character, Daniel Cleaver? (played by Hugh Grant). There has been plenty of online tid bits indicating that Hugh wouldn’t be making a return in the latest sequel. A bit of a shame really, as it would have been great to see another punch on 🙂 Let’s face it, watching two grown Englishmen fight like girls was incredibly funny. Pinching, scratching and biting, it certainly had my tummy in stitches. Maybe Mark might learn a thing or two from Jack? I guess we will find out later this year. According to Miramax and the Official Movie Facebook Page, the movie is currently set for release on the 16th of September. Stay tuned 😉
