Catching Summer by L.P. Dover

Catching Summer is the first book I have read of author L.P Dover, and it wont be the last. I was captivated from the very first page and enthralled all the way to the end. I think I might have given my neighbours something to think about when I yelled out “hell no way!” late last night. But that’s what happens when you are so deeply involved in a story, you can’t help but express a word or two 🙂

In Catching Summer, we meet Summer, a young woman whose dreams were cut short when her husband was brutally killed by a group of thugs. During the day Summer puts on a brave face, but each night she wakes in a cold sweat, her mind replaying her husbands murder over and over. With the help of her good friend and psychologist, Phillip, Summer slowly rebuilds her life. She wont ever forget what happened, but with the support of her close friends and family she bravely moves into the next chapter of her life.

Fast forward two years and Summer is the owner of a successful local tavern. Even though she has made peace with her husband’s death, she doesn’t think she will ever be able to love again. But that all changes when her close friend Kate asks for her help with the local NFL team the Caroline Cougars. Summer offers her first aid skills for a few weeks, long enough for the teams wide receiver Evan Townsend to make his move.

As the brother of one of her closest friends, Evan has been part of Summer’s life for quiet some time. He knows what happened to her and understands what she has been going through. He has been keeping his distance, silently waiting for a sign that she is ready to open her heart and let love in. When she takes up the role of medical assistant for his team, Evan turns up the heat assisting Summer with her CPR class and anything else she might need help with 😉 And once Summer lets him in, he knows he will never be able to let her go.

I just loved reading Catching Summer. At the start of the book, it was difficult to see any kind of future for her. She has been through so much. But over time, and with the love of her friends, her family and Evan, she finds the strength to put all the pieces of her shattered heart back together. Evan was so adorable. He didn’t try to rush her, he just took his time and let their friendship develop. It was such a beautiful story.

Catching Summer is the latest book from L.P Dover’s Second Chances series. One of the great things I loved about this book is I didn’t need to read any of her previous stories to understand what was going on or who the main characters were. However, now that I have read Catching Summer, I will be buying more because when you find a great author you simply want to read more of what they have to offer! 🙂
