You both have nothing planned for this weekend and can’t decide what to do? It can be very frustrating can’t it?! Since our family moved to Melbourne, I have looked to Mitch for a few suggestions. Big mistake! His ideas are always football, fishing or watching the V8 Supercars on tv and, well, neither of those choices are my idea of fun. So we have had to compromise on numerous occasions. I have gone with Mitch to a few football games (Mitch supports the Hawthorn Football Club) and he has come with me to catch up on some shopping and watch one of the latest chick flicks 😉 As fun as that is, it’s nice to do something different, something both of us would look forward to. I have come up with a few ideas, a few suggestions that maybe you would you enjoy with your loved ones. Check out my list below and let me know what you think.
Learn to Dance
Want to do something you never ever thought you would ever do? Don’t worry, you won’t need to wear spanx and hide your man bits 🙂 This is all about showing your partner just how much swing you have in your hips 😉 Sign up for an hour and your partner will love it! You don’t have to be light on your feet, you just have to be willing to have some fun. Grab your loved one by the waist, plant a great big smooch on their cheek and show them what your made of!!
Go to the Beach
Whether you live by an ocean or a lake there’s nothing quiet like sitting back by the water and listening to the waves lap along the shore. Yes I know it’s Autumn, but not every day is cold and windy. Pack a picnic lunch, roll up a blanket and find a nice secluded spot. If your loved one can’t handle a couple of hours away from the television screen and his beloved football team, take your own football for some fun. You could spice things up a little and wear his favourite team’s jumper 😉 Ever heard of a Moshi Speaker? Plug in your smart phone and listen to some fun tunes while you both watch the sun go down.
Head to the Aquarium
Sometimes the weather is just plain awful. When your windows are fogging up and your cat is scratching your face off because you’re trying to toss it outdoors, it’s time for you to take your furry friends hint and go somewhere warm and cosy. Why not visit your local aquarium? When was the last time you checked out nature’s splendour behind a thick layer of safety glass? 🙂 Sharks, octopus, sting rays – it’s actually really fun. Purchase a nice hot coffee and stroll through the dimly lit corridors with your partner….romantic 🙂
Feed the Ducks
Let me guess, you’re worried that you’re going to fall flat on your face and look like a fool? You won’t, but if you’re worried and think that you will be the one in a million to throw out your hip or dislocate your pelvis then here’s another idea. Feed some ducks, fish or just take a stroll through your local gardens. Doesn’t get much more laid back than that! Take some sandwiches with you, that way you have some crusts the birds might enjoy. Doesn’t matter whether you are in one of our capital cities or a small country town, take your partner for a walk and enjoy the fresh air.
My daughter came home recently with an invite for her school’s Trivia Night. It was for teachers, parents and friends – 250 adults trying to figure out the name of Rod Stewart’s first wife! It was crazy fun!!! At first I felt a little intimidated – up against the teachers – hell no! But you know what? It really didn’t matter, the different categories made for such a fun night. While they were working towards their eduction degrees I was listening to Madonna and getting “Into The Groove”, so take that Mr Maths teacher! 🙂 one point us – 0 for the rest 😉 You will laugh, shout victory and have a great time.
Visit a Karaoke Bar
Are you a closet Mariah Carey? Think you could do a better job than some of the contestants on The Voice? Honestly, it doesn’t matter if you have the voice of an angel or if you sound like you swallowed a frog – it’s all about having fun. If you have ever been to a karaoke bar before you will know that there are lots of different people in the world, and when it comes to showing your vocal ability, anything goes. Hell – after a few drinks everyone sounds the same. I once taped someone on my phone, we were like “You were fantastic!” The next day we laughed for about 2 hours. She said “What is that god awful racket”, we were “It was you!” It was hilarious and something we will all do again.
When I was younger – a lot younger – I played basketball and softball. I still remember my bright blue knicker bockers! Gorgeous 🙂 I don’t have the same speed anymore, if I tried to make a slide I would have more chance of splitting open my jeans and giving everyone an eyeful of my underwear than showing off any kind of skill. But it’s still a fun thing to do. Maybe the kids have a tennis racket or cricket bat? Jump in the car, if it isn’t too far go for a walk and play ball. Have a laugh, encourage each other and record your antics on your phone. It’s all about having fun.
Take a Wine-Tasting Tour
There are many options with this idea. You can travel as far and wide as you want. Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania – there are lots of award-winning vineyards to choose from. If you don’t want to travel too far, most capital cities and many smaller communities host Brewery Tours, Progressive Dinners and Cheese and Wine tasting events. Red Balloon has lots of great ideas for those looking for a relaxing day out.
Go to the Spa
Ladies and gentleman – step on up and take your clothes off! I bet that caught your attention 😉 Who doesn’t like a massage? Chilling in a nice hot tub of bubbles and feeling all those tense muscles slowly release. A manicure, pedicure, foot rub or facial – you can be laying on one table while your loved one relaxes beside you on theirs. You will never want to leave.
Take a Cooking Class
Who needs Master Chef or My Kitchen Rules? After a few hands on lessons you can delight your friends and family with a 3 course dinner fitting Prince William and Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Spin freshly made pasta on the tip of your finger, juggle some apples before you turn them into an award-winning pie. Take your partner and learn some tricks of the trade. No matter how your soufflé turns out, it will be the fun you shared together that you will both remember for years to come.
It’s not all about heading off to your local bar or restaurant, it’s about making wonderful memories and above all, seeing that great big smile on the face of your loved one. I hope you like my list. If you think of anything that is not listed then please leave a comment below.
