China Doll

When Mitchell said he wanted to take me to China Doll for dinner a few years ago, I was like “hell no!” We had both heard lots of great things about the restaurant, but I just couldn’t get my head around the idea of eating raw food! So each time Mitch brought up the idea, I shot it down in flames. But last time we were in Sydney, I decided to have a look at the menu on his iPad. I felt really stupid, not everything on the menu was raw. We made a reservation, caught a taxi and went to Woolloomooloo Bay, 5 minutes from the Sydney CBD.

China Doll is one of the most gorgeous restaurants in Sydney. The staff were incredibly polite, very friendly and incredibly helpful. I was unsure of what my meal was and our waitress explained it without making me feel silly. Bang Bang? 😉 We didn’t have any entrees, but for main Mitch chose the Pork Belly and going by some of the noises he was making, he was more than happy with his choice. I had the Corn Fed Chicken Breast which was like a pulled apart breast of meat with a spicy sauce. It was one of the best meals I have ever had! We also had a side dish of greens which were lightly cooked to perfection.

For dessert we shared the Sago Pudding with Vanilla Coconut Cream & Passionfruit Syrup. I have only had Sago once before and that was at Chin Chin in Melbourne. Now that experience was really good, so I wasn’t sure if China Doll could live up to it, but they did…it was like my taste buds were having a party and my brain could do nothing more than zone out 😉

China Doll is simply amazing. There cocktails are mouth-watering, I had 2 Geisha’s it was the most unusual but delicious flavour. I don’t like overly sweet drinks, and I’m not a fan of sour either, but these had a wonderful balance. Simply divine. Picture this, sitting across from each other, candles on the tables, the sound of the water rippling in the bay, watching the sunset over the city…you want to take someone out for dinner that is amazing, intimate, great food and service, visit China Doll!

Ananas Bar and Brasserie

Ok, as far as quaint little rustic places go, this restaurant just takes the cake! This fine french establishment is situated in the heart of Sydney’s ‘The Rocks’ district and only a hop, skip and a jump from Circular Quay. Surrounded by fabulous boutique hotels, museums and some of the most fabulous cafes Sydney has to offer, Ananas is the jewel in Sydney’s extravagant tiara. When I tried to explain the decor to one of my friends, I said this – “Think of this – Pirates of The Caribbean meets Burlesque” it was the only thing I could think of. The place is eccentric, like a mix of old world charm and high society flamboyance. It’s a cocktail of fun, laughter and flirtatious whimsical. Great food, wonderful service and an ambience that would have made Rita Hayworth proud.

Ananas is what ever you want it to be. It can be incredibly romantic, intimate or playful. The scene is already set, the rest is up to you. You can share a plate of some of the most mouth-watering seafood you will ever eat, or choose a champagne risotto, atlantic lobster or something as simple yet delicious as lamb or spaghetti. My hint – Lobster 😉

Ananas had some absolutely wonderful cocktails, and for the life of me I can not remember what they were. I guess telling the server to “surprise me” left it open to all kinds of wonderful. He did ask a few questions, to get a general idea of what I like, but after that it was a roller coaster, and I didn’t want it to end.

As our night rolled on, it became a bit of a blur, but one I am looking forward to reacting when we return later this year.

Claires Kitchen at Le Salon

As far as sexy little hidden treasures go, this is the ‘la cream of the plate’! The first thing I think of when I go here is Rebecca Judd’s walk in robe! The next is flamboyance 😉 You have to visit this place – to see is to believe! 🙂 If a burlesque show was coming to Sydney, the producers would be fighting over Ananas and this place! You want to set a sexy mood, turn up the heat and start your night of with a yehaw 😉 then this is the place to go. Sexy, alluring, decadent, not enough words can describe how incredibly romantic Claire’s Kitchen is.

As far as establishments go in Sydney, like the above places I have mentioned, Claires also has the goods to back it up. When Mitch and I dined here, we had so much fun. Mitch enjoyed a medium rare fillet of beef while I enjoyed the best quail I have tasted in my entire life! The staff were wonderful, the service is really good, you see something on the menu and are unsure – simply ask, they wont chew your head off. They are more than happy to make your evening an enjoyable and satisfying one.

This establishment is also french… Hey, they have some of the best reviews and most happiest customers, why would I not recommend them? I know when Mitch and I return later in the year we will return to Claires.

Address: 35 Oxford St, Darlinghurst, NSW 2010.

Remember, it’s all about the experience. When you are thinking of somewhere romantic to go you will want to take your loved to an establishment that has great food, fabulous service and a warm soothing atmosphere. Whether you are celebrating an anniversary, a birthday, thinking of somewhere to propose 😉 or going on a first date, you want to make the evening memorable!?! These three places are the first three I thought of when thinking of where Mitchell and I have visited in Sydney. We have been to many more places, but these are my favourites.

Check them out and decide if it’s the place for you. Remember, it is about making life long memories and about looking back and remembering what a wonderful time you both had.

Enjoy x x x
