Starting this month, Tony and Emmy Award winning comedian, actor, producer and director Billy Crystal will be touring Australia. The king of comedy will be entertaining the crowd alongside one of Australia’s best-known interviewers, Gold Logie nominated television presenter, comedian and television producer Andrew Denton. Together, this funny pair will share their unique observations on the world while also reflecting on Billy’s life and career to date.
Not only has Billy Crystal stared in some of the best movies of my life time, movies such as When Harry Met Sally (1989), City Slickers (1991), Forget Paris (1995), Americas Sweethearts (2001) and Parental Guidance (2012), he has also written some amazing books. Still Foolin Em (Where I’ve Been, Where I’m Going, and Where the Hell Are My Keys?) which he released just last year, as well as his best seller 700 Sundays based on his one-man Broadway play. Billy has experienced many highs and lows during his career from hosting the Academy Awards… 9 times… to his Tony Award win for his 2005 play 700 Sundays. He has also won a long list of Emmy Award’s for his writing, acting and directing talents, won MTV Movie Awards and Kids Choice Awards…enough awards to fill his New York apartment! But it was the death of his long time friend and comic cohort Robin Williams that shook Billy to the core. From their days as TV stars in the early ’80s until Williams death, the two comedians enjoyed 30 plus years of friendship. Billy was so shook up that the only words he could express to fans were “no words”.
I’m sure Billy will have a few milestones to share with his audience, with such a fabulous career, he won’t run out of things to talk about 🙂 Think about it, just 10 years ago (2006) Billy reunited with Robin Williams and Whoopi Goldberg for a special edition of Comic Relief. It was only 15 years ago (2001) when he played the character of Mike Wazowski in the Disney Pixar smash hit Monsters Inc. 20 years ago (1996) his movie Hamlet was released in cinemas. It was 25 years ago (1991) when he made the hit movie City Slickers. It was 30 years ago (1986) when he launched the popular televised comedy fundraiser, Comedy Relief, with Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams. 35 years ago (1981,) that he landed his very first comedy show called The Billy Crystal Comedy Hour. 40 years ago (1976) that he landed his first television role as Al Bender in the tv series All in The Family. This year it will be 50 years will have passed since he met his wife and love of his life Janice…. (I just had to put that in there) 😉
As you can see, Billy Crystal and Andrew Denton will have plenty to talk about. If you are thinking of wonderful date night ideas for you and your loved one, I highly recommend treating yourselves to an entertaining evening with Billy Crystal.
