Keith Urban Free Fallin’

Free Fallin’ – I love this song! I could listen to it for days. There are so many versions of it out there. Some interpretations are smoothed out a little, like in the case of John Mayers version… but the best by far, as far as I am concerned 😉 is Keith Urban’s live performance. Keith and his band perform the song so well. It’s upbeat, catchy and portrays the very heart of the message in a way only the Aussie superstar can – flat-out sexy!

The original song was written and performed by Tom Petty and told the tale of the childhood sweetheart he left in his wake as he left Florida for the West Coast in search of stardom. “She’s a good girl, crazy ’bout Elvis. Loves horses and her boyfriend, too” awww Tom, she loved you and you left her… The song is so catchy, every time I hear it I wonder if Toms sweetheart knew the song was written about her. The romantic in me pictures her sitting in her bedroom playing the song over and over wondering about what could have been… awwww 😉

Tom Petty

I enjoy listening to Tom singing it live, but when I hear Keith Urban sing those same lyrics, I turn to mush. He has such a wonderful voice and when he breaks out with his cheeky smile I can’t help but have a girly moment 😉 I have put the link HERE for Keith’s live performance, it should also be available for viewing at the top of this page. If you have any problems watching it, please let me know. I have added the lyrics below just in case you don’t know all the words. In the meantime watch Keith and his fabulous band play one of my favourite songs – Free Fallin’ Leave a comment and let me know what you think of it.

Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty

She’s a good girl, loves her mama
Loves Jesus and America, too
She’s a good girl, crazy ’bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend, too

It’s a long day living in reseda
There’s a freeway runnin’ through the yard
I’m a bad boy ’cause I don’t even miss her
I’m a bad boy for breaking her heart

And I’m free, free fallin’, fallin’
And I’m free, free fallin’, fallin’

All the vampires walkin’ through the valley
They move west down Ventura boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
And the good girls are home with broken hearts

And I’m free, free fallin’, fallin’
Now I’m free, free fallin’, fallin’

Free fallin’,
Now I’m free fallin’,
Now I’m free fallin’,
Now I’m free fallin’.

I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I wanna free fall out into nothin’
I’m gonna leave this world for a while

Now I’m free, free fallin’, fallin’
Now I’m free, free fallin’, fallin’

  1. I love your understanding on this song and even though Keith Urban is an absolute legend of a performer, I do think Tom hits the high notes better, and that was the essence of the original version. Still Keith is right up there. I also love they way you bring songs into your blog. Maybe you can do a story on one of My faves, Jason Mraz too. Some of your readers may also have suggestions!
