There’s another romantic comedy to hit movie theatres soon, and it has one hell of a fabulous cast. Cafe Society is the latest movie from American film maker Woody Allen and stars the gorgeous Mrs Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart and Jeannie Berlin. Funny man Steve Carell as well as Jesse Eisenberg also have prominent roles. Going by the movie trailers, you will want to make sure you have an empty bladder before you get comfy at your local theatre. Going by all the interweaving story lines, you wouldn’t want to blink or you may miss something! 🙂
Cafe Society is based in New York in the 1930’s and tells the tale of a young Jewish man named Bobby Dorfman (Eisenberg). Dissatisfied with working for his father, Bobby decides to move to Hollywood. It is here that he takes a job running errands for Phil (Carell), a very powerful agent. Phil’s secretary Vonnie (Stewart) is given the job of helping Bobby settle into city life, and before long the young man finds himself falling in love.
Sound ok so far? Well this is where it starts to get a little tricky. Vonnie has a boyfriend, and I won’t give anything away except for this: that’s where the intricate drama begins. Who is she with? What is her lover up to? Amongst all the turmoil Bobby returns to New York and accepts a job managing his gangster brothers high-end nightclub. It is here that Bobby meets Veronica (Lively) whom he eventually marries. But just when Bobby’s life is all nice and cosy, guess who turns up… Vonnie.
All kinds of drama unfold as Bobby gets to know politicians and gangsters. Bobby may have risen to the top of Society, but as the old saying goes “The bigger you are, the harder you fall”. So what is the meaning of the film? Well it seems that we each have a crossroad, and there can be times when we question the choices we have made along the way. What might have been, what if…? Sometimes we make choices that haunt us for the rest of pour lives.
As the narration quotes “Love is not rational. You fall in love, you lose control.” Hmmm, I wonder who exactly Woody Allen is referring to. Village Cinemas, Event Cinemas and Regent Cinemas have listed Cafe Society for release on Thursday the 20th of October. I have attached the latest movie trailer above for you to check out.
