I absolutely loved reading this book! It was soooo gooood. Ok, I really have to be careful not to give too much away but damn! This book was such an emotionally charged, heart pumping fabulous story… maybe I should relax with a glass of wine before I get my knickers in a twist 🙂
I had never read a book by Penelope Ward before downloading Neighbour Dearest from Amazon. I had read a few reviews that recommend reading Step Brother Dearest first, but after staring at the cover for goodness knows how long the book magically appeared in my Amazon Kindle App. I might have “accidentally” clicked on download while I was I was drooling and reading the premise , oops, but am I sorry for it…no way!
Neighbour Dearest tells the story of Chelsea, a young woman who was previously introduced in the book Stepbrother Dearest. Trust me when I say, you do not need to read the previous book to understand what is going on in this one. It can be read as a story all on its own. After Chelsea had her heart broken by her ex boyfriend Elec, she moved into a new apartment a few blocks away from her job. Wanting nothing more to do with her ex, or any guy for the matter, she focuses on her role as the Director of the Arts at her local Mission Youth Centre. Everything is going great until one night when she hears her neighbour laughing and discovers not only is there a hole in her wall, but her cocky arrogant neighbour has been able to hear everything that has been said and done in her bedroom.
On the other hand, despite how much Damien tries to keep everyone at arms length, his frustrating neighbour has a way of getting under his defences. He can’t help but come to her rescue when ever she is around. He only has to smell a puff of smoke and he is already kicking in Chelsea’s front door with a fire extinguisher in one hand. She brings out his protective nature no matter how hard he fights it. The last thing Damien wants is a girlfriend, but the more they get to know each other and the more their friendship grows the more he questions his need to keep everyone away.
Neighbour Dearest is all about second chances and that despite the walls you build around your heart, it can take nothing more than a kind soul to pull it down brick by brick. Chelsea and Damien had a connection from the start whether they wanted to admit it or not! They both had their hearts broken and thought they would never get another chance. All it took was for these two souls to become one in one of the most heart warming stories I have read. I laughed out loud, I even used half a box of tissues when their story got to much and I cried myself to sleep one night. But the next day I picked it up and read the rest of their love story.
Penelope Ward has written a fabulous book I know I will read time and time again. I didn’t think I would ever stop crying when I discovered the big secret, but using all those tissues and waking up Mitchell in the middle of the night with my muffled sobs was so worth it 🙂 Penelope wrote such a fabulous story, one that I will read again and again just to remember its much loves characters.

Amazon Premise –
After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec. Damien was a hotter version of my ex. The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking. He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall. Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.
The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities. We got to talking. He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup. He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more. Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie. I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien. I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.
