Filthy Rich by Raine Miller

I thought this story was going to be great, it had good reviews, but after a few chapters I began wondering what on earth I downloaded! Filthy Rich…. Filthy something! I feel like watching The Conjuring just to remove some of that sickly sweet goodness from my head! I love good old-fashioned romance just as much as anyone, but this was something else. It was an over the top, controlling, manipulating, full steam ahead frenzy. It was like Caleb was going to burst into flames if he didn’t get Brook barefoot and pregnant asap!

Poor Brook, she has experienced more than her fair share of tragedy in her young life. From loosing her parents in a car accident when she was 15 years old, to also loosing her abusive husband and unborn child in another car accident years later, Brook needed time and space to recover. Living with her grandmother on a secluded island in Massachusetts Bay was just what she needed. A place for her to accept her past and look forward to the future. Then she met Caleb. Mr billionaire, the kind of guy who could afford everything and anything. The kind of guy she can’t help but feel attracted to.

Since taking over his father’s business empire, Caleb has been working hard and playing harder. Making money and bedding women was just another hard days work. Then wham – no he doesn’t die 🙂 – he meets Brook. Sweet Brook – cue the Sound of Music 🙂 For Caleb she is like a bolt of lightning sizzling all the corners of his brain! One look and he has thrown his king of the mountain crown to the wind! Caleb makes it his business to be everywhere Brook is. He is a serial pest! Oh he charms her, then in what seems like another flash of lightning he beds her! Wham Bam! High five for Caleb! grrrr….

The more I read the more I became annoyed with how controlling Caleb was. First it was employing her to decorate his home, then not letting her out of his sight. Spending each night either at her house or taking her to his home. Buying her a car, jewellery and so on. Each time Brook put on the brakes, he would just steam right on over her like a train out of control. By the end of the book (which is about 2 months after they met) she’s pregnant and married to the guy! I wonder if she was barefoot in the chapel! He got his wish after all!

There was a teeny weeny bit of drama, blink – or in this case put down the book for 5 minutes and visit the bathroom and you might miss it. A little scene were an ex shows up and well a little incident happens. It’s actually a serious incident but it was brushed over so quickly you don’t think much of it. Oh and Brooks constant emotional break downs – I wanted to shake her! Oh and the way they spoke to each other – I had to keep reminding myself this was a book set in today’s society, not 1800 England. Filthy Rich – I found it lacking – really?!!!! 🙂 But if that’s your kind of thing, then check out the links below.
