Michelle Branch is a Hopeless Romantic

Remember Michelle Branch? Probably not… it’s been a while since the American singer, songwriter released anything. If you can’t remember or have no idea who she is – Michelle released 2 top-selling albums in the early 2000’s. The first was called The Spirit Room which showcased her top 10 singles Everywhere and All You Wanted. Her second album Hotel Paper was just as successful and featured her hit singles Are You Happy Now and my favourite Breathe. Her songs swung between pop and country rock which may sound a tad bizarre, but for Michelle it worked.

Fast Forward 15 years and she has finally released a new album. She is older, wiser and this time she has a story to tell… and it is all about love. With a title like Hopeless Romantic, I am looking forward to hearing all her thoughts on the subject. She gave away a little bit of information when she recently gave a press release: “I love hearing human stories about people interacting with each other, and the title perfectly sums up the record.” Michelle explained. “A lot of these songs are about heartbreak, but knowing that it doesn’t mean the end of the world. It just means letting go and moving on and knowing that you’re going to find something better, as hard as that is.” Hmm, something tell’s me she has a lot to get off her chest.

Michelle and new partner Patrick

Michelle married her bass player Teddy Landau in Mexico on May 23rd back in 2004. Everything must have been going well, for a while at least, as the pair welcomed a baby girl in August 2005. But as the years followed, there were no more kids and no more albums. I can only assume they were happy doing their thing. But come February 2015, the entertainer filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

But don’t feel sorry for this girl from Phoenix Arizona, she has a new man in her life. And he just happened to co-write her new album. Patrick Carney is best known as the drummer for The Black Keys, a blues rock band from Akron, Ohio. Are you thinking what I am thinking? The girl likes musicians? 😉 Michelle’s album has been released on Apples iTunes Store, the first song released from the album is aptly titled Hopeless Romantic. Visit iTunes to hear a sample of the song or check out the clip above. Have a listen, and let me know what you think.
